“You look just like her. [...] Same eyes, same hair... Oh, she used to be so beautiful...” |
The Old Woman, possibly surnamed Rhodes, is a minor character in Bloodwash.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Old Woman is a tall, elderly Caucasian woman with short grey hair. She wears a dark brown swearer with black and white stripes, black pants, and brown shoes. She stands in a constantly stooped position.
History[]
The Old Woman, whose name is never given in-game, is a confused senior citizen of Youngstown, Ohio. According to her short monologue, she used to know a girl, implicitly her daughter, who looked similar to Sara, but has since lost contact with her.
Bloodwash[]
The Old Woman will appear in the plaza, directly outside of the Pizza Parlor, after Sara has put her laundry into the dryer at the laundromat. Upon exiting the pizzeria, standing uncomfortably close, she can be spoken to by Sara. She will absentmindedly remark how similar Sara looks to someone she knew, sharing "her" eyes and hair, lamenting that the person in question "used to be so beautiful". The woman then talks about how she "lost her" and has not been able to find her since. Sara, believing she is talking about one of the missing cases, brings up the recent disappearances, at which point the old lady falls silent. Unlike other characters, she will not comment on any items shown, and will disappear once the plaza is left and re-entered.
Trivia[]
- In the opening credits, the Old Woman is credited as "Old Lady".
- The daughter the Old Woman talks about is implied to be connected to the disappearances in some way, given her reaction to Sara mentioning the subject. Although it could be that her daughter was simply one of the girls who disappeared, considering the circumstances under which she appears, there is a strong likelihood that the daughter she is talking about is actually the Womb Ripper, later identified as Samantha Rhodes. Three clues in particular point towards this theory:
- The Old Woman appears when other strange occurences happen around the plaza, such as the appearance of a disturbing doll head and the pregnant mannequin, all of which are somehow related to the Womb Ripper.
- The Old Woman is immediately noted for being very tall, a trait unusual for most women, but shared by the Womb Ripper.
- The Old Woman stops speaking as soon as the missing cases are brought up. While this could be due to shock from being reminded of the disappearance of her daughter, it seems equally possible that she is aware of her daughter's crimes as the Womb Ripper and refuses to talk about it further, either out of shame, to protect her, or simply denial.
- If the Old Woman's daughter really is Samantha Rhodes, this might identify her as Mrs. or Ms. Rhodes, depending on her marital status. There is also the possibilty that if she is/was married, Rhodes might be her married name rather than her maiden name.
